Jun 2006 Debt collection action for $6000.00 in credit card bills plus attorney’s fees. Judge rules in our favor, and debt collector takes nothing.

May 2006 Sexual assault on wife case. DA dismissed felony after client pleaded not guilty. Now DA dismisses all misdemeanors.

May 2006 Possession of firearm charge against ex-felon. Charge dismissed after discussion with DA..

Apr 2006 DUI case involving drunk driver sleeping in car. Won driver’s license hearing in Colorado Dept. of Revenue. District attorney dismissed all charges.

Mar 2006 Possession of methamphetamine case. Charge dismissed by DA after hearing on motion to suppress evidence. Client pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia, a petty offense.

Mar 2006 Won DUI trial in Grand County, Colorado.

Feb 2006 DUI case—high BAC. Pick-up truck goes off embankment into a field. Rifle, Colorado, judge grants motion to suppress evidence because of trooper’s pattern of tardiness. DA dismisses all charges.

Feb 2006 DUI case—high BAC. Hunter from Louisiana is charged with driving overturned SUV while drunk. DA dismisses all charges after we persuade him that another man was driving the SUV.

Feb 2006 Interstate child custody case--Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA). Mother absconds to child and hides in Arizona. We flush her out. She files custody action in Arizona. We get Colorado and Arizona courts to confer. Both courts agree Colorado is child’s home state. Father is reunited with child and obtains parenting plan from Colorado court.

Dec 2005 Possession of “short shotgun” felony case. We ask judge to suppress the short shotgun because cop had no legal basis to seize the shotgun. Motion granted. All charges dismissed.

Nov 2005 Participated in campaign to recall District Attorney Colleen Truden. Truden is first DA in Colorado history to be recalled by the voters.

Oct 2005 Female driver strikes bicyclist at dusk on Old Highway 82 near Carbondale, Colorado. Catastrophic injuries. Driver’s insurance company pays out policy limits. Over a million dollars of restitution at stake for care of victim. Jury acquits driver of all charges.

Oct 2005 Mother is charged with harassment for calling step-mother an “f___ing bitch.” Judge dismisses case on defense motion.

Sep 2005 Assault case in Rifle, Colorado. Jury acquits defendant based on self-defense.

Aug 2005 Child abuse case involving burns and bruises all over child. Defendant is the mother. Jury acquits defendant even though prosecution calls three doctors and an expert from Children’s Hospital.

Jul 2005 Opened immigration practice.

Jun 2005 DUI case in Glenwood Springs. Jury acquits defendant.

May 2005 DUI case—high BAC-- in Glenwood Springs involving driver passed in driver’s seat. Jury acquits defendant.

May 2005 Felony menacing case on the Old Santa Fe Trail in Rio Grande County. Jury of 13 citizens acquits the defendant.

Apr 2005 Violation of restraining order case in Aspen. Jury acquits defendant who claimed he did not realize the restraining order kept him out of his own home.

Jan 2005 Won appeal in Colorado Supreme Court, People v. Paul, 105 P. 3d 628 (2005). The Supreme Court reversed Judge J.E. DeVilbiss and dismissed all charges, including vehicular assault charges.

2003 Won reversal of convictions for 5 clients in Silt Police Officer Williams’ cases. All charges dismissed.

Sep 2003 Opened The Law Firm of Ted Hess, P.C. in Glenwood Springs, CO.

May 2000 Worked as trial attorney at Law Office of Thomas D. Silverman, P.C.

Apr 2000 Admitted to Colorado Bar.

Feb 2000 Relocated to Redstone, Colorado.

Jan 2000 Retired from U.S. Marine Corps in grade of brigadier general.

1998 Managed Aviano (Italy) aviation mishap. A Marine electronic warfare jet severed a gondola cable resulting in the death of 20 European skiers.

1997 Managed Texas (JTF-6) Border Shooting Incident. Marines shoot and kill 18-y-o citizen who fired at them. Two Texas grand juries and the U.S. Dept. of Justice decline to indict Marines.

1996 Promoted to brigadier general and assigned to duty as top lawyer in Marine Corps at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

1994 Assigned as Circuit Military Judge for Marine Corps forces on West Coast. Presided over 50 jury trials.

1994 U.S. Supreme Court case, Davis v. United States, 512 U.S. 452 (1994)

1993 U.S. Supreme Court case, Weiss v. United States, 510 U.S. 163 (1994).

1991 Assigned as Director, Navy-Marine Corps Appellate Government Division, Washington Navy Yard. Successful in eight government appeals to Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.

1991 Promoted to colonel.

1991 Managed boom let of 300 conscientious objector cases during the Persian Gulf War.

1990 Assigned to Judge Advocate Division, Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington, DC as Head, Administrative and Civil Law.

1988 Led successful public affairs campaign to stop lenders from preventing servicemembers from removing cars from Hawaii when they were transferred.

1987 Assigned as staff judge advocate, 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Hawaii.

1986 Assigned as Circuit Military Judge for Marine forces in Western Pacific, Okinawa, Japan.

1984 Joined Office of Secretary of Defense as legislative affairs officer for Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger. Promoted to lieutenant colonel. Award Navy Commendation Medal.

1982 Joined Judge Advocate Division, Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington, DC.

1982 Graduated with honors from The Judge Advocate General’s School, U.S.

1980 Promoted to major. Reassigned as Chief Defense Counsel, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, CA.

1975 Graduated from Amphibious Warfare School, Quantico, VA. Selected to study law.
